Meet Patrick, Corporate Applications Specialist for JEA. After graduating from Bishop Kenny High School in Jacksonville, FL, Patrick headed to North Carolina to play soccer in college. When he blew out his knee and was spending lots of time off his feet, he began building computers and learning DOS to pass the time. After a short time of getting skilled with computers, Patrick moved back to Jacksonville to decide on his next move. In May 1988, he landed an unexpected job with St. Johns River Power Park (SJRPP) using his new found computer skills. Patrick worked by day and pursued a computer science degree by night. With SJRPP, he began networking and doing mainframe programming. Next thing he knew, it was the year 2000 – the year the SJRPP and JEA merged. Patrick’s career then took off. He helped program the main languages and build what has become the modern day IT department of JEA.
My favorite thing about working at JEA is working with our customers and doing things that add value. Things I worked on 10 years ago are still adding value today.
— Patrick
Patrick built JEA’s original Google outage map, which was supposed to serve only as a pilot program. However, the map received so much great buzz that JEA decided to use it as the official outage map. JEA used this map for 10 years.
Patrick's Advice: “Slow down and pay attention to details.”
