About JEA
JEA is located in Jacksonville, Florida, where we proudly serve an estimated 478,000 electric, 357,000 water, 279,000 sewer customers and 15,000 reclaimed water customers.
Northeast Florida’s Not-For-Profit, Community-Owned Utility
JEA is not owned by investors. It was created by the City of Jacksonville to serve those who live here and in the surrounding communities. The sole purpose of our business is to ensure the electric, water and sewer demands of our customers are met, both today and for generations to come. Our goal is to provide reliable services at the best value to our customers while ensuring our areas’ precious natural resources are protected.
Approximately half of JEA’s electric revenues come from its residential customers, the other half from our 50,000 commercial and industrial customers. The commercial and industrial market segments also account for about one-third of the water and wastewater
revenue.
Further details can be found by reading: Jacksonville City Charter, Article 21.
As a community-owned utility, we’re not subject to the same state regulations as investor-owned utilities. We are, however, regulated in certain areas of environmental and health matters, power plant location, electric safety and electric rate structure matters.

JEA Board and Senior Management
Our governing body is made up of a seven-member Board of Directors appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council. Our Board of Directors appoints a CEO who then selects the top tier of management referred to as the Senior Leadership Team.

Electric System
JEA owns and operates an Electric System with five generating plants, and all transmission and distribution facilities, including over 745 circuit miles of transmission lines and more than 6,760 miles of distribution lines.
JEA also purchases energy from several solar sites located across the service territory, including Jacksonville Solar, a 100-acre site on the City's westside, utilizing 200,000 solar panels. In 2016, JEA sold 14.5 million megawatt hours of energy.

Water and Sewer Systems
JEA’s Water System consists of 134 artesian wells that tap into the Floridan aquifer. Water is distributed through 38 water treatment plants and over 4,449 miles of water lines. In fiscal year 2016, sales in the water & sewer divisions measured 36.3 million kgals.
Wastewater is collected from a four county area through more than 3,900 miles of wastewater collection lines and is treated at 11 wastewater treatment plants.
JEA is committed to improving the water quality of the St. Johns River. Our Reclaimed Water System supplies highly-treated water for irrigation. It reduces the amount of nitrogen released to the river because the treatment-enhanced wastewater isn’t put back into the river. Using reclaimed water for irrigation also reduces the demand on the potable water supply taken from the Floridan aquifer. JEA uses 227 miles of reclaimed water lines to distribute reclaimed water to some 8,361 reclaimed water customers.
