Meet Safety and Health Specialist, Curtis. Before joining the JEA family, Curtis was a transportation specialist in the Marines for more than 21 years. During this time, he had the chance to visit different places, including Okinawa, Japan on three occasions. In Okinawa, Curtis first transported hazardous materials as a driver, and he later coordinated the transportation of troops and equipment around the Pacific Rim. So, when was he introduced to the safety side of things? After his time as a transportation specialist, he became a ground safety specialist, and he has been in the safety field ever since. Curtis received his bachelor’s degree in environmental management from the University of Maryland and left the Marines. He retired from the military in 2010 and worked for Apex Companies as a safety specialist. Two years later, he joined the JEA family as a safety specialist as well.
Take Action. — Curtis
Curtis currently works on the water/wastewater side of JEA, where he oversee safety at facilities such as Buckman, District 2 and Ridenour. He states that he enjoys what he does because he knows he has played a role in preventing accidents. He also loves the career development opportunities and leadership trainings offered here at JEA.
Curtis' Advice:“Try something new and apply for jobs you may know little about. It may end up being something you love, or it may not, but take chances. Only you can affect how you react to things.”
