JEA Urges Customers to Prepare for Extended Outages in Aftermath of Hurricane Milton
2024-10-07
Jacksonville, FL - JEA continues to monitor the approach of Hurricane Milton, a dangerous Category 5 storm, expected to impact the JEA service territory later this week. All JEA team members are prepared to respond to any storm impacts in our area and restore utility services.
Now a Category 5, the storm is expected to bring damaging winds, heavy rain, and the risk of flooding in Northeast Florida. JEA customers should be prepared for possible power and water outages later this week.
JEA is working diligently to bring in as many additional external resources as possible to support our crews following Milton. However, thousands of utility restoration personnel remain in areas of the Southeast still recovering from Hurricane Helene and will be deployed to assist other areas of Florida.
We ask for customers’ patience and understanding as longer-than-normal service restoration times may be possible.
Before the storm, JEA encourages residential and commercial customers to visit jea.com/storm to ensure their contact information is up to date and to register for power restoration alerts. Emergency personnel recommend stocking up enough nonperishable food and water – at least one gallon per person. Don’t forget to stock up for pets, too.
Customers also can prepare by:
- Ensuring supply kits are stocked.
- Reviewing family or business emergency plans.
- Bringing loose outdoor items indoors.
- Ensuring trees are trimmed near your home or business.
- Charging cell phones and mobile chargers.
