JEA Receives Commendation for Mutual Aid Work from the American Public Power Association

2020-10-02

JACKSONVILLE (Oct. 2, 2020) -- JEA has received a national commendation from the American Public Power Association (APPA) for its support in electric power restoration efforts in Foley, Alabama.

On September 16, 2020, JEA sent 26 crew members and three fleet support personnel to assist Riviera Utilities in repairing numerous distribution and transmission electric lines and restoring power to approximately thousands of Foley residents who were without as a result of Hurricane Sally.

According to several crewmembers, the damage witnessed in Foley, AL was rated among the worst they’ve seen while on mutual-aid, and many residents expressed gratitude for their presence and assistance in power restoration.

“We know that in times of need, our fellow utilities are always there to help us,” says General Manager Electric Systems, Ricky Erixton. “So when we get the call for assistance, we are always happy and honored to do what we need to do to get them back up and running, I want to specifically thank all of our hard working JEA line crews and support staff for their tireless restoration efforts. We are all very appreciative of the recognition provided by the APPA.”

JEA participates in the American Public Power Association’s Mutual Aid Network, which coordinates with utilities and authorities during widespread power outages.
