JEA Urges Reclaimed Water Customers to Follow Mandatory Watering Restrictions

2024-06-20

JACKSONVILLE – With increasingly high temperatures and little significant rainfall these past several weeks, JEA continues to experience exceptionally high demand for our reclaimed water supply. We currently are producing and delivering more reclaimed water than ever before, but this surge in demand is putting a strain on our system and as a result reducing our system pressures.

Therefore, JEA strongly urges all potable (drinking) and reclaimed water customers to follow mandatory watering restrictions set forth by the St. Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD).

These restrictions ensure the efficient use of water for landscape irrigation, allowing enough water to maintain healthy landscapes year-round. They specify how much water may be used, the amount of water that may be applied, and appropriate watering days and times for residential and nonresidential locations. These days depend on whether your address ends in an odd or even number, and on the time of year.

The current SJRWMD watering restrictions schedule runs from March through November during daylight saving time.

  • Residential properties with odd-numbered or no addresses may water Wednesdays and Saturdays.
  • Residential properties with even-numbered addresses may water Thursdays and Sundays.
  • Nonresidential properties may water Tuesdays and Fridays.
  • The restrictions also stipulate that customers water only when needed and not between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. JEA recommends watering from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. Water for no more than one hour per zone.
  • These restrictions apply to private wells and pumps, ground or surface water, and water from public and private utilities. Some exceptions may apply.

JEA recognizes that all water -- both potable and reclaimed -- is a valuable resource that needs to be conserved. JEA is committed to ongoing customer education about the value of water as a limited and important resource.
