JEA Crews to Provide Mutual Aid to Tropical Storm Marco and Hurricane Laura Impacted Communities
2020-08-25
JACKSONVILLE - August 25, 2020 - Beginning at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 26, JEA electric crews will travel to Lafayette, Louisiana to assist Lafayette Utilities in power restoration efforts following Tropical Storm Marco and Hurricane Laura through a utility mutual aid request.
Thirty-one crewmembers will deploy from JEA’s Westside Service Center (6727 Broadway Avenue) and Southside Service Center (2325 Emerson Street). Crew restoration efforts are on target to begin Thursday afternoon following Hurricane Laura’s passage. This is the second mutual aid request JEA has fulfilled since August 7, when crews assisted Con Edison with restoration efforts in Westchester County, New York following Tropical Storm Isaias.
JEA crews will continue to employ COVID-19 safety measures both on the road and in the field to ensure maximum protection. Such efforts include:
- Wearing masks
- Social distancing (6-feet apart when possible)
- Daily sanitizing of JEA vehicles and equipment
- Limiting the number of workers in spaces
- Providing each crewmember with his own truck
- Daily screening, which includes a temperature check and a series of health-related questions
