JEA PowerPlay Comes to MOSH

2013-03-28

Jacksonville, FL - A new 900-square-foot exhibit called JEA PowerPlay: Understanding Our Energy Choices will open to the public April 6 at the Museum of Science & History. The exhibit will focus on alternative energy sources and conservation and will serve as a gateway to the fully renovated JEA Science Theater.

JEA PowerPlay, a permanent exhibit on the museum's first floor, presents the science, conversion, distribution and conservation of energy using cutting-edge technology and state-of-the-art exhibit design. Using interactive touch screen kiosks, visitors will explore the science of solar, wind, hydro, fossil fuel and nuclear energy as they bring the futuristic city of MOSHtopia to life with power, light and sound. And, with a little elbow grease, visitors will see if they have what it takes to generate power for common household electronics like alarm clocks, video games and laptops.

The JEA Science Theater, a visitor favorite, will reopen with new seating, lighting and audio visual equipment. The theater delivers physics and chemistry principles along with explosive experiments to onsite visitors, students and campers. More than 3,000 science shows are presented annually.

"Our continued partnership with JEA allows our community access to the most current information on multiple energy sources and allows MOSH to present the science of energy in state-of-the-art theater and exhibit settings. We are so pleased to have such a dynamic and valuable community partner," said MOSH Executive Director Maria Hane.

Research and educational support for the new exhibit and JEA Science Theater was provided by JEA. “This is a perfect partnership. Our goal is to educate people of all ages about energy and how the choices we make affect the amount of energy we use,” said JEA Chief Executive Paul McElroy.

JEA is the seventh-largest community-owned electric utility in the United States and one of the largest water and sewer utilities in the nation providing electric, water and sewer service to residents and businesses in northeast Florida.
