Keeping Summer Bills Affordable

We have been experiencing an extraordinarily hot summer, which means A/C units are working non-stop, water usage is up, and utility bills are higher than normal.

The good news is, JEA customers are paying less for utility services than most others across the state, including Gainesville, Miami, Orlando, Pensacola, St. Pete, Tampa and Tallahassee.

But we know that some of you may still be having trouble paying your higher summer bills.

Here are some ways we can continue to work together to help keep your bill affordable.

What JEA is Doing What You Can Do Right Now
We maintain fuel as a pass-through cost, so when JEA’s cost of fuel goes down, we’re able to pass those savings directly to our customers on a monthly basis. While at home, set your thermostat on 78⁰ and run a fan to help make up the difference.
We’re investing in northeast Florida’s future with our Integrated Resource Plan that will ensure reliable, sustainable and affordable utility services now and for decades to come. While away, set your thermostat on 85⁰. If you have a pet, set it to 80⁰ or below.
We offer payment and billing options to help, like JEA My Budget, which levelizes your monthly bills to avoid spikes during the summer and winter. Replace your light bulbs and water fixtures with energy-efficient models. And take advantage of JEA’s energy and water efficiency rebates to help with upfront costs on other larger efficiency upgrades. We have rebates for those.
We provide FREE efficiency and irrigation assessments that show you where you’re using the most of your utilities and where you can save. If you have an irrigation system, check its settings to avoid unnecessary watering. And if rain is in the forecast, give your irrigation system a break and skip a watering.
As a not-for-profit, we only charge what it takes to provide your electric, water and sewer services. Adding or repairing weather stripping around windows and doors can help prevent leaks, keeping cool air in and hot air out.

If you are in jeopardy of not being able to pay your utility bill during this extended heat, JEA has programs and partnerships in place to help.

  • Payment extensions- If you need a little more time to pay your bill, you can apply for an extension.
  • Payment arrangements– We offer payment arrangements, allowing customers to pay their balance in monthly installments.
  • Neighbor to Neighbor–This fund allows customers and employees to provide temporary assistance to neighbors who are unable to pay their utility bill.

We’re proud to serve you and this community.
