JEA Wins Top Honors at State-Wide Lineman Competition

Jacksonville, FL - Cold weather and rain did not dampen the skill of more than 100 journeyman linemen and apprentices as they competed this weekend at the Florida Municipal Electric Association’s (FMEA) 13th Annual Florida Lineman Competition, with JEA taking first place overall.
Teams representing 11 municipal electric companies from across Florida competed in events that test skills in a timed setting emphasizing safety, excellence and honor.
JEA winners were:

1st Place - Post Insulator Change
1st Place - Cross Arm Change Out
1st Place - Suspension Bell Change
2nd Place - Cutout Replacement - Team 109: Clay Cook, Alan Singley, Lonnie Barr
2nd Place - Suspension Bell Change
2nd Place - Vertical Hurt Man Rescue
4th Place - Overall Journeyman - Team 110: J.J. Sabo, Greg Johnson, Larry Sparks
1st Place - Vertical Hurt Man Rescue - Team 206: David Poncher
2nd Place - Overall Apprentice
2nd Place - Apprentice Vertical Hurt Man Rescue - Team 204: Gary Griffin
1st Place - Apprentice Cross Arm Brace Change

3rd Place - Overall Apprentice
Sixteen JEA journeyman linemen and eight apprentices competed this year.
