JEA Presents Inaugural Light It Forward Awards at Nonprofit Appreciation Breakfast

Jacksonville, FL  — Three local human services advocates were honored for their dedication and commitment to serving Jacksonville residents in need yesterday, when JEA presented them with the company’s inaugural “Light it Forward Awards.”

Presented at JEA’s annual Nonprofit Appreciation Breakfast, the awards were created by JEA to honor those nonprofit employees who go above and beyond the call of duty in serving the city’s most vulnerable residents. The event was attended by representatives from more than two dozen local nonprofit agencies and charities that work collaboratively with JEA.

“By building strong working partnerships with local nonprofits, (JEA) is able to refer customers in need to the appropriate community partner,” JEA Chief Customer Officer Kerri Stewart told attendees. “Thank you all for making a difference in the lives of JEA customers.” 

JEA CEO Paul McElroy presented the inaugural Light it Forward Awards to:

Phyllis Kennebrew, ElderSource – Kennebrew was recognized for her work with ElderSource’s Senior to Senior Program, where her duties include everything from arranging home energy audits to helping seniors stay safe and independent in their homes.

Cynthia Robinson, City of Jacksonville – A financial specialist, Robinson was honored for her work serving senior citizens through the federal Elderly Heating and Energy Assistance Program (EHEAP). In nominating her for the award, Robinson’s colleagues noted that despite facing personal issues with her home during Hurricane Irma, Robinson still reported to work to ensure that her senior clients had power.

Alice Davis, North Florida AIDS Network (NFAN) – Davis was honored for the help she provides to 250 NFAN clients each year – all while undergoing chemotherapy and radiation for cancer.

Nominated by their nonprofit colleagues, this year’s Light it Forward winners were selected from a list of 10 finalists. Additional nominees included: Alexis Chatman, City of Jacksonville; Paulette Fulton, City of Jacksonville; Michelle Griffin, Children’s Home Society; Lili High, Catholic Charities; Linda Johnson, Northeast Florida Community Action Agency; Jessica Kloke, North Florida AIDS Network; and Kathy Maloney, Beaches Emergency Assistance Ministry (BEAM).
