JEA Receives Two Green Awards

Jacksonville, FL - JEA recently received two awards from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The North Florida Chapter of USGBC provides annual awards to organizations and individuals who have made significant contributions and demonstrated leadership in improving efficiency and reducing impacts on the environment. The 4th Annual USGBC North Florida Awards Celebration includes two winners from JEA; they are:

  • Green Hero: This award is intended to recognize members of the community who have made a significant impact on sustainability in north Florida. Recipients of this award included: Bruce Doueck, manager, customer conservation and efficiency, JEA.
  • Green Initiative Award: This award recognizes activities, initiatives, programs, and concepts that have made a significant impact on sustainability in north Florida. Recipients of this award included: David M. Reed, conservation and efficiency specialist, JEA, for the JEA Home Energy Evaluation Kit Backpack Program, submitted by Green Team Project.

JEA’s Home Energy Evaluation Kit helps customers make their home more comfortable and shows them how they can lower their monthly energy costs. It's fun, easy to use, and available for free to anyone with a Jacksonville Public Library card.

Simply check one out at any Jacksonville Public Library Branch or the Bartram Branch of the St. Johns County Public Library. Kits can be checked out for three weeks before it must be returned to the library.

JEA maintains more than 729 miles of transmission lines and 6,547 miles of distribution lines in its electric system. On the water and sewer side, JEA has 4,208 miles of water lines and 3,708 miles of collection lines.

JEA is the seventh-largest community-owned electric utility in the United States and one of the largest water and sewer utilities in the nation providing electric, water and sewer service to residents in northeast Florida.
