Our Commitment to Value

As a municipal utility, JEA is dedicated to keeping costs down and providing the reliable utility services our customers depend on each day. Like many other industries, rising costs and stricter regulatory requirements have increased the expense of serving our customers. To continue providing safe and reliable services, the JEA board of directors approved a two-part rate adjustment in March of this year. The first adjustment went into effect on April 1, 2025, and the second will go into effect on October 1, 2025.

Rate Adjustments: What You Need to Know

Over the past decade, the utility industry has experienced significant changes. JEA, along with other utilities, must comply with stricter regulatory requirements while managing the increasing cost of doing business and growing energy and water demands of customers. To continue investing in sustainability, new technologies, and infrastructure improvements, a rate adjustment was necessary to ensure we can meet our community’s future needs.

Persistent Inflation

JEA has maintained stable rates for years and must respond to current and anticipated inflationary pressures on the cost to serve our customers.

Capital Investment

As JEA's grid ages, maintaining infrastructure and building new facilities require significant investment.

Regulatory Requirements

Meeting stricter environmental regulations, such as reducing carbon emissions or water pollution, requires expensive technology upgrades.

Cleaner Energy

JEA’s investments in cleaner energy, such as nuclear and solar, require significant upfront investment.

What’s Changing?

The 2025 rate adjustments included changes to customer charges and how bills are structured. Impacts from the adjustment vary across JEA’s customer base. Some customer bills have decreased or remain unchanged, but many customers noticed slight increases to their bills beginning in April.

Individual impacts depend primarily on the size of your property, how much energy and/or water you consume, and conservation measures made to decrease your usage. Overall, the rate adjustment increased the average customer’s electric bill 3.6% and raised water customers’ bills about 56 cents more per month.
