Water, Wastewater and Irrigation Adjustment Terms
In limited situations, such as a leak or excessive water loss, JEA may adjust a customer’s water and/or wastewater bill. Upon a customer’s request, JEA will evaluate the circumstances surrounding the excessive usage and determine the appropriate adjustment amount. If it is determined that the leak or excessive use occurred across two or more billing cycles, up to two consecutive billing periods can be considered for an adjustment. To ensure minimal impact from a leak or excessive use, JEA recommends customer’s review the consumption information provided on their billing statement.
Water Adjustment Requests
JEA will consider water adjustments from a documented leak and only on the consumption above the calculated average usage of the residence. At JEA’s discretion, the calculated average usage will be based on the previous three months or the same three months of the previous year. If a calculated average is not available, the average will be based on 6,000 gallons per household. For partial or inconsistent monthly usage, JEA may exclude low usage months from the average calculation. If approved, any consumption between the calculated average usage and 20,000 gallons will be adjusted to the first tier rate. Any consumption over the calculated average usage and over 20,000 gallons will be adjusted to the second tier rate. For leaks exceeding 100,000 gallons, contact JEA.
Wastewater Adjustment Requests
In situations where the excess water was returned to JEA’s wastewater system, or repair documentation is not provided, an adjustment may be evaluated only on the consumption above the calculated average usage of the residence. As with Water Adjustment Requests, at JEA’s discretion, the calculated average usage will be based on the previous three months or the same three months of the previous year. If a calculated average is not available, the average will be based on 6,000 gallons per household. For partial or inconsistent monthly usage, JEA may exclude low usage months from the average calculation. Upon receipt of a Wastewater Adjustment Request, JEA will evaluate the circumstances surrounding the water loss and consider an adjustment. If approved, any consumption over the calculated average usage will be adjusted to the first tier rate.
Concealed leaks that are underground, under a structure, in walls, or in an irrigation system, may be adjusted at the calculated average billing level as long as excess water was not returned to JEA’s wastewater system and proper documentation of the repair is provided.
Apply for an Adjustment
Adjustment amounts are based on the customer’s water and wastewater usage as measured by the home’s water meter readings. Residential usage rates are based on a three-tier system, 1-6,000 gallons, 7,000-20,000 gallons, and more than 20,000 gallons.
