JEA Senior Day to Help Seniors Prepare for Summer Energy Costs, Avoid Utility Scams

2026-04-09

JACKSONVILLE, FL (April 9, 2026) – As Northeast Florida heads into the warmer months, JEA is inviting seniors to attend Senior Day on Wednesday, April 15, to learn ways to manage summer energy use, lower utility costs, and protect themselves from common utility scams.

Senior Day will provide seniors with direct access to JEA representatives and community partners who can help them understand their energy use, explore bill management options, and take simple steps to reduce electricity consumption during peak summer months.

“Senior Day is about making sure our customers feel informed and supported,” said Raven Simmons, JEA’s Manager of Community Partnerships. “By working alongside trusted community organizations, we’re able to support seniors with services that promote health, financial stability, and overall well-being, while extending our impact across the communities we serve.”

JEA energy advisors will be on-site to share summer energy-saving tips, including thermostat management, reducing peak usage, and improving home efficiency. Seniors can also learn about programs such as payment arrangements, MyBudget billing, and free home energy assessments.

In addition, JEA will provide guidance on how to identify and avoid utility scams, which often increase during periods of higher energy use. Scammers may send text messages that appear to be from a utility provider, asking for immediate payment or personal information.

Customers are reminded: if a message comes from an unknown or unverified number, do not click links or respond. Customers should verify their account directly through jea.com or the My JEA app.

The Florida Department of Health will also provide free flu vaccines on a first-come, first-served basis, with consent forms completed on-site.

Community partners participating in the event include:

  • City of Jacksonville Community Outreach
  • Catholic Charities
  • Council on Elder Affairs
  • United Way’s 2-1-1
  • Additional local organizations

Transportation assistance is available through Ride United, which offers prescheduled Lyft rides for eligible residents. Seniors can contact United Way 211 for more information.
