JEA Earns National Safety Recognition, Reinforcing Commitment to Workforce Protection
2026-04-02
Jacksonville, FL - JEA continues to earn national recognition for its unwavering commitment to safety, reinforcing its position as an industry leader in protecting employees and delivering reliable service to the community.
“At JEA, safety is our number one value and a responsibility we carry every single day—for our employees, their families and the communities we serve,” said Vickie Cavey, JEA’s Chief Executive Officer. “These national recognitions reflect a culture where our teams are empowered to look out for one another, speak up and do the right thing. That commitment not only protects our workforce, it strengthens the reliability and service our customers depend on.”
The American Public Power Association recently awarded JEA Diamond Status in Group H as part of its annual Safety Awards of Excellence program. Diamond Status is the highest honor in the program and reflects a comprehensive evaluation of a utility’s safety practices, culture, and performance.
This recognition follows closely behind a 2025 Safety Award from the Florida Municipal Electric Association, which recognized JEA for maintaining low safety incident rates across its operations.
JEA’s safety performance has also been acknowledged at the national level by the National Safety Council with two prestigious honors:
- Occupational Excellence Achievement Award, recognizing organizations with incident rates at or below 50% of the Bureau of Labor Statistics industry average
- Million Safe Work Hours Award, recognizing JEA’s achievement of two million safe work hours between August 20, 2025, and February 9, 2026, without an OSHA-defined lost-time injury
“Earning these awards is a direct result of our employees’ dedication to maintaining the highest safety standards in everything they do,” said Tony Long, JEA’s Director of Safety & Health Services. “From the field to our facilities, our teams take personal ownership of safety—looking out for one another and never compromising on the practices that keep everyone safe.”
JEA’s strong safety culture supports its broader mission to deliver reliable and sustainable utility services. By prioritizing employee safety, JEA strengthens operational performance, reduces risk, and ensures continuity of service for more than one million customers across Northeast Florida.
