JEA Helps Customers Stay Ahead of High Bills and Conserve Water with Proactive Alerts and Free Resources
2026-03-20
Jacksonville, FL - As Northeast Florida faces ongoing dry conditions and water conservation remains a priority, JEA is going the extra mile to help customers manage their utility usage, avoid unexpected high bills and protect the region’s water supply.
Through proactive monitoring and customer-focused tools, JEA provides daily usage, leak and high bill alerts that notify customers when unusual water usage is detected. These alerts—delivered by email, text or phone—allow customers to quickly identify potential issues and take action before costs escalate.
“JEA is committed to delivering real value to our customers by helping them stay informed and in control of their utility usage,” said JEA’s Chief Customer Experience Officer Dr. Charles Moreland. “By providing timely alerts and easy-to-use tools, we’re helping customers catch problems early, save money and do their part to conserve water.”
Helping Customers Catch Problems Early
In some cases, customers may receive alerts indicating continuous water flow over an extended period—often a sign of an undetected leak. Left unaddressed, leaks can waste thousands of gallons of water and significantly increase monthly bills.
Common sources of leaks include:
- Running or leaking toilets
- Dripping faucets
- Irrigation system leaks or broken sprinkler heads
- Outdoor spigot leaks or damaged pipes
- Pool or water feature leaks
JEA encourages customers to review their usage regularly through their online account at JEA.com and ensure their contact information is up to date to receive alerts.
Supporting Community Conservation Efforts
These tools are especially important as the St. Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD) has declared a Phase II Water Shortage, calling for increased conservation across the region.
By identifying leaks early and reducing unnecessary usage, customers play a direct role in preserving local water resources during this critical time.
Ways Customers Can Save Water and Lower Bills
JEA recommends the following simple steps to conserve water and reduce costs:
- Fix leaks as soon as they are detected
- Limit irrigation and follow local watering guidelines
- Adjust sprinkler systems to avoid overwatering
- Install water-efficient fixtures and appliances
- Monitor daily usage through JEA’s online tools
Free Tools and Personalized Support
JEA offers free water usage assessments and conservation resources to help customers better understand their usage and identify opportunities to save.
Customers can also sign up for customized usage alerts, allowing them to set thresholds and receive notifications before usage leads to higher bills.
“Small changes can make a big difference,” said Eric Davis, JEA manager of utility analytics. “We’re here to give our customers the tools, information and support they need to make smart decisions and avoid surprises.”
