Project Objective

JEA completed a project to upgrade our Mandarin Water Reclamation Facility located at 10828 Hampton Road. This facility is a regional sewer plant, treating an average of over 7.5 million gallons daily, with the ability to treat up to 8.75 million gallons per day and also reclaims treated wastewater for irrigation purposes.

Some of the equipment at this plant had reached the end of its service life and had to be be rehabilitated or replaced to keep the facility updated, modernized, reliable and structurally sound. In preparation for this project, upgrades to the exterior fencing were completed in April 2015 with the remaining construction to be completed in two phases.

Project Phases

Phase I: Completed May 2017
Installation of new odor control systems, rehabilitation of existing concrete channel structures, demolition of existing grit removal systems, and the installation of new mechanical screens (used to screen debris before treatment). The new odor control units that were installed have exceeded JEA expectations and are removing over 98.6% of the odors at the plant.

Phase II: May 1, 2016 - March 31, 2017
JEA has installed a 1.6 million gallon concrete storage tank, and is upgrading and expanding the high level ultraviolet disinfection system to increase the plants reclaimed water output. These upgrades will allow the plant to send nearly all its treated wastewater to the reclaimed water system for irrigation purposes and not to the St. Johns River for discharge.
