Project Objective
JEA contractor crews (Jacobs & JB Coxwell Contracting) previously completed a project to extend two 20-inch chilled water mains along A. Philip Randolph Boulevard.
Chilled water systems efficiently supply chilled water to commercial buildings from a central plant using underground supply and return distribution pipes. The chilled water is then utilized by each building to provide air conditioning through their on-site air-handling units.
The next phase of work involves the contractor extending the chilled water main across Gator Bowl Boulevard. This work will provide resiliency for current and future chilled water connections and is part of the overall City of Jacksonville BayJax Innovation Corridor Project.
Construction Conditions
Construction will primarily occur in City of Jacksonville rights-of-way, roads, and easements.
This construction project will not affect your normal water, sewer, or electric service.

Temporary Lane Closures - Gator Bowl Boulevard (3/11 - 6/21)
For the safety of crews and the public, the contractor will be required to temporarily close a portion of the lanes on Gator Bowl Boulevard from Georgia Street to the entrance of Lot D in phases while the chilled water main is being installed. Phase 1 will close the southbound lanes, and phase 2 will close the northbound lanes.
A portion of Lot J and the southern multi-use path will also be closed while this work is completed. Traffic will remain open in both directions throughout construction, with one lane maintained in each direction. JEA encourages drivers to plan for traffic delays in this area. The project work area will remain closed (24/7) until completion. Please observe all construction signs, detours, and general directions provided by the crews working on-site.
Restoration of the Project Area
Restoration of the project area typically begins 2-3 weeks after the project has been completed. Any existing pavement, grass, curb, gutter, driveways or sidewalks affected during construction will be returned to its pre-construction condition.
