Deercreek Club Road East Sewer Manhole Replacement Project

Project Objective
JEA crews replaced a sanitary sewer manhole in the median on Deercreek Club Road East between Abington Hills Lane and Vineyard Lake Road North. This manhole replacement was necessary to ensure the reliability of the sewer system that serves the Deercreek Community. Failures to sewer manholes can potentially cause major sewer back-ups, environmental harm and roadway issues.
For the safety of our crews, removal of ground water with pump systems was required prior to excavation.
The new manhole was constructed out of polymer concrete, which is able to withstand highly corrosive conditions due to its 50+ year design life. This type of manhole was previously installed at the intersection of Deercreek Club Road East and McLaurin Road North in the Deercreek community.
Construction Conditions
For the safety of our crews and the general public, we were required to temporarily close and detour traffic around the work area on Deercreek Club Road East between Abington Hills Lane and Vineyard Lake Road North while this work was completed. Residents were access, and permitted to drive (with caution) within the work area.
Dewatering pumps, heavy equipment and other materials necessary to complete this project were staged within the project area. Restoration of the project area was scheduled after the manhole was installed, tested and cleared for use.
This manhole replacement project is part of a future large scale project currently in design to inspect and rehabilitate 240+ existing sanitary sewer manholes in the Deercreek community. The advancement of sewer manhole inspection equipment and lining applications now allow JEA to inspect and rehabilitate manholes in a fraction of the time, and with minimal disruption to the community. Additional information will be distributed to the Deercreek community prior to this future project.

Restoration of the Project Area
Restoration of the project area typically begins soon after the sewer manhole has been installed, tested and cleared for use. Any existing pavement, grass, curb, gutter, driveways, or sidewalks affected during construction will be returned to their pre-construction condition.
