Steele Street Water Improvement Project
Estimated Dates & Work Schedule
Anticipated End Date: 2027-03-31
*Dates are highly subject to change. In some instances, weekend and extended hours may be required.
Project Objective
As part of the Small Diameter Pipe Replacement Program to modernize hundreds of miles of JEA’s existing potable water distribution system, JEA’s contractor, Petticoat-Schmitt Civil Contractors (PSCC), is working to replace and upgrade portions of the water lines along portions of Steele Street, Whitner Street, 5th Street W., 6th Street W., Barnett Street, and Grothe Street
These sections of the water main were approaching the end of their useful service lives and are being proactively replaced to ensure the reliability of the JEA water system in the area. This work also includes the installation of a new fire hydrant. When completed, this project will provide increased water pressure, enhanced fire protection, and improved system reliability.
Construction Conditions
For the safety of crews and the public, portions of the road within the work areas will be temporarily closed while crews are actively working. The road will reopen at the end of each workday. Please see the work area map below.
Residents will have access to their homes, and local traffic will be permitted to drive (with caution) within the construction area. However, there may be times when access is limited, particularly when crews are working directly in front of homes or businesses. In such cases, crews will knock on doors to provide notice of any prolonged blockage of driveways. Crews will coordinate driveway access needs with residents in advance of the work. Please observe all construction signs, detours, and general directions provided by the crews working on-site
This work will not impact your normal JEA electric, water, or sewer service.
