Riverview (Phase 3) Water Improvement Project

Project Objective

Working in partnership with the City of Jacksonville, JEA has completed the third and final phase of an important project to install new potable water lines in the Riverview neighborhood. As part of this project, JEA has also installed new individual water services to the property line, water meter boxes and added fire hydrants to improve area fire protection.

Property owners within all three phases of the Riverview Water Improvement Project boundary have now been notified by mail (U.S. Postal Service) regarding options to voluntarily connect to the new JEA potable water line.

Connection to the New Water System

Connection to the water system will be voluntary and eligible residents should have received a mailing during the month of June (2020) regarding their options of connecting to the new water line. Interested property owners will be responsible for paying all JEA connection fees, on-site plumbing costs  and obtaining associated permits required to make the connection from homes to JEA’s water line located in the right-of-way. JEA will install a new water meter once connection fees are paid.

Below are the steps required to connect to the JEA water system:

The customer completes the JEA residential meter application depending on the size meter required to serve their home. A private plumber can assist with determining what size meter the home will require.

The meter application is submitted with payment to JEA Water & Sewer Pre-Service located at 21 W. Church Street in the JEA Central Business Office downtown. The application may be brought in or mailed to the address at the top of the application. A licensed plumber usually handles this for the homeowner. View the service application here.

Customer hires a private, licensed plumber, obtains City of Jacksonville plumbing permit (currently $64), and connects home to the JEA water        system. This is also usually handled by a licensed plumber.

We understand that not all homeowner occupied residents may be able to absorb the costs associated with connecting to the JEA water system. Learn more about Federal and/or State affordable housing funds that may be available through the City of Jacksonville’s Housing and Community Development Division’s Utility Tap-In Program (UTIP).

JEA does not recommend or endorse any one licensed plumber. However, we suggest contacting the Better Business Bureau (bbb.org) prior to hiring any licensed plumber and getting at least three (3) estimates for the work. If you have any questions regarding a plumbing permit or plumbing code, please contact the City of Jacksonville’s Plumbing Permit Office at 630-1100.
