Ways to Save

We want to help you find ways to save on your utility bill by using less electricity and water. From small, inexpensive changes like switching to LED light bulbs or fixing a leaky toilet, to providing rebates on insulation and energy-efficient appliances, we have lots of ways for you to save.

JEA's Savings Coach provides guidance and is available to answer any questions you have in the process. Every room in your home is an opportunity to save and an Energy Efficiency Assessment is a great way to get started.

The Weather Effect

How the Weather Effects Your Bill

Humidity has a huge impact on our utility bills, because when we feel hotter, we feel more uncomfortable. We then turn the thermostat to a colder setting to feel more comfortable. Find out how the weather effects your bill.

How To in Two

Brian will show you in 2 minutes or less how to fix a leak, determine if you have enough insulation in your attic or seal your windows. Check out our videos. You – and your wallet – will be glad you did.

Conservation Tips

Curious about what you can do to improve your home’s efficiency without spending a dime? JEA can help. We’ve prepared several fact sheets to help you make the smartest choices, and we’ve also included brochures from ENERGY STAR and the St. Johns River Water Management District.

Running Sprinkler in Shadow

Did you know that 35 to 50 percent of water used for residential irrigation is wasted? You don’t have to drown in high water bills for the sake of a green lawn. JEA’s LawnSmart experts will visit your home and show you how to get a green, beautiful lawn without the extra costs caused by overwatering.

Energy Myths

Myth: Water heater timers or turning off your water heater during the day will save you money.
This is typically of little or no value since water heaters cycle on a thermostat and typically run about 3 hours out of a 24-hour day. In order to realize a savings, a water heater would need to be set to come on fewer than 3 hours per day. And if you ran out of hot water and overrode the timer, you would override the savings, too. However, cutting off your water heater when you are leaving for the weekend or vacation does make savings sense.
