Project Objective

A contractor working for JEA (T.G. Utilities) is continuing work on the second segment of a larger water project referred to as the Southside Integrated Pipe System (SIPS). The purpose of this project is to construct a new raw water transmission pipeline between two of JEA’s major water treatment grids located in Duval County.

When completed, this project will allow us the ability to transport excess water supply from the north side of the St. Johns River to the south side of the river to better meet increased Potable Water demand in the southerly portion of the JEA service area.

Once the new water transmission line is constructed and placed on-line, it will result in a direct offset of water withdrawal from the South Grid. Once completed, this project will promote conservation of the Floridian aquifer by lessening JEA's water resource withdrawal demand from its southern Raw Water well fields. Learn more about the overall project

The second segment of the SIPS project involves the installation of 12,110 linear feet of raw water main from a JEA electric transmission easement located near Gate Parkway to JEA’s Deerwood Water Treatment Plant located at 7587 Southside Boulevard.

Construction Conditions

Construction will primarily occur in City of Jacksonville rights-of-way and easements, with the majority of construction activity taking place in the existing JEA electric transmission line easement.

Project Update - August 14, 2023

With multiple contractor crews working on this project, approximately 9,730 LF of 30" water main has been installed, with approximately 3,460 LF remaining.  One crew will complete work in the JEA easement portion of the Greystone Office Park parking lot (near 10550 Deerwood Park Boulevard). Another crew will be completing horizontal directional drilling just north and south of J. Turner Butler Boulevard in the JEA electric easement.

For the safety of the crews and the general public, crews will need to temporarily close the western-most portion of the Graystone Park parking area. Parking lot access will be provided through the entrance located on Deerwood Park Boulevard.

Following pipe installation work, the parking lots for Crossroads Church and Greystone Office Park will be repaved.

As the project progresses, periodic updates will be provided to residents within the project area by email and on this dedicated webpage.
