Qualified Backflow Vendors


This list of qualified backflow vendors is available to help customers choose an appropriate vendor. We do not recommend one vendor over another.

Questions to Ask When Selecting a Backflow Prevention Vendor

  • Is this vendor Licensed and insured?
  • Has this vendor received their certification from an FSAWWA certified agency?
  • Does the company abide by and have a signed a Code of Conduct with JEA?

Commercial Backflow Requirements

  • All JEA commercial water services must have a reduced pressure (RP) backflow preventer assembly installed maintained and tested annually.
  • Some fire sprinkler lines may have a double check (DC), under specific circumstances. Please see the JEA Cross Connection Control policy for details.
  • Backflow preventers must be installed within 10’ of the JEA meter; or, in the case of unmetered services, immediately upon entering the customer’s property.
  • All backflow preventers must be installed according to manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Any deviation from these requirements must receive prior approval from JEA.
  • Commercial backflow preventers are required to be tested annually.
  • Annual Courtesy reminders are issued sixty days and thirty days prior to the testing due date of each backflow preventer, via email and/or automated calls.
  • Testing is required regardless of receipt of an annual reminders.
  • If backflow preventer fails its annual test, it will need to be repaired or replaced and retested within 30 days of receiving the failed test.

  • Backflow

    Backflow is the flow of water in the wrong direction from a resident’s water system into the public water supply. Backflow may be caused by “back pressure” – which may occur if pumps are used on an irrigation system – or “back siphonage,” which results from a change in water pressure in the water main, sending irrigation or well water into the public water supply.
