We understand that sometimes life can bring financial hardship. If you're struggling to pay your utility bill, JEA would like to help connect you with community resources that may be able to help. These resources may provide food, financial assistance, employment, housing and/or medical assistance.

When you contact United Way of Northeast Florida, you will be provided with options:

  • Press 2 for the Suicide Hotline
  • Press 3 for the Veteran Care Coordinator
  • Press 5 to make a free Tax Filing Appointment
  • Press 6 for all other calls

Enter your 5-digit ZIP code

Next, you may be asked questions such as:

  • What is your name, date of birth, phone number, last 4 of social security number?
  • Are you a Veteran, Disabled, Employed?
  • How far past due are you and what is the amount of the current bill? Did you get a shutoff notice?
  • What is the reason you need assistance? Is there a financial hardship?

Finally, based on the answers to these questions, the specialist will offer several resources for you to contact.

Quick FAQs

  • The United Way of Northeast Florida 211 does not provide direct financial assistance.
  • Depending on your situation, 211 does provide a few community resources for callers.
  • To qualify, understand that agencies require appointments, proof of income eligibility, additional documents, and a copy of the current utility bill.
  • There may be a wait. You can choose to call back or text "Hello" to 211904 to enter a live chat with a specialist who follows the same script.

Closed Title:Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), administered by Northeast Florida Community Action Agency, helps keep families safe and healthy through initiatives that assist families with energy costs. LIHEAP provides federally funded assistance in managing costs associated with:

  • Home energy bills
  • Energy crises
  • Weatherization and energy-related minor home repairs

LIHEAP can help you through programs that reduce the risk of health and safety problems that arise from unsafe heating and cooling practices.

  • COJ Housing Services. This service offers several programs available to income-eligible, owner-occupied, single-family (one to four units) homeowners. To be pre-screened for eligibility, dial: (904) 255-8200 (main) or (904) 255-8229 (direct).
