Project Objective

A contractor working for JEA (Callaway Contracting, Inc.) has completed a project in your neighborhood to replace a failing sanitary sewer manhole and adjacent sewer lines located at the intersection of Lomax Street and Riverside Avenue. This project was necessary to increase the reliability of the sewer system that serves your area. Failures to sewer lines and manholes can cause sewer back-ups, environmental harm and roadway issues.

This project was completed in two (2) phases. Phase 1 involved construction of a temporary by-pass piping system used to divert the gravity sewer during the project. This sewer by-pass was installed at the intersection of May Street and Lomax Street. JEA also installed a pump that was required to run 24-hours a day to move sewage from the existing pipe through the temporary by-pass manhole. Phase 2 involved the replacement of a section of sewer main and manhole at the intersection of Riverside Avenue and Lomax Street.

Project Update

Paving of the project area has been completed. The roadway was reopened on June 25, 2021. Our paving contractor is scheduled to return to the area on July 6, 2021* to complete final striping of the roadway. For the safety of our crews and the general public, lane closures will be required during the restriping operation.
