Water for Everyone –
Now and in the Future.
JEA has developed an Integrated Water Resource Plan (IWRP), which looks at how we can effectively and efficiently manage our water resources to benefit everyone while protecting the environment.
Pollution Prevention (P2) is the application of methods to reduce or prevent the creation of wastes at their source. Pollution prevention methods identify and/or use environmentally friendly alternative processes or materials wherever possible to reduce wastes. These wastes typically cannot be recycled, reused or could be harmful to human health and the environment. There are many ways P2 can be implemented in businesses.
Many benefits can be realized by companies that apply P2 practices. The potential for monetary savings is a major reason for businesses to implement P2. Pollution prevention can save money by reducing costs associated with; waste storage and disposal, regulatory reporting, and sewer surcharges.
Reducing waste at the source before it becomes a pollutant that must be treated or disposed of makes good business sense. Examples of common cost effective P2 practices:
Preventive maintenance Fixing a water leak Recycling or reusing materials and byproducts Substituting for less toxic chemicals/materials in a process Engineering--out processes that create harmful wastes
By implementing these practices a company can:
Decrease operating expenses Reduce employee exposure to harmful substances Reduce harmful emissions and environmental liability Conserve resources
