Burke Street Water Improvement Project
Estimated Dates & Work Schedule
Anticipated End Date: 2026-12-11
*Dates and times are highly subject to change. In some instances, weekend and extended hours may be required.
Project Objective
As part of the Small Diameter Pipe Replacement Project to modernize more than 200 miles of JEA’s existing potable water distribution system, JEA crews are working in your area to upgrade and replace portions of the water main on Burke Street, Strickland Street, Shortreed Street, Mott Street, Spring Street, and Willow Branch Avenue.
These sections of the water main are approaching the end of their useful service lives. They are being proactively replaced to ensure the reliability of the JEA water system in the area. This work also includes the installation of two new fire hydrants. When completed, this project will provide increased water pressure, enhanced fire protection, and improved system reliability.
Construction Areas
This project will be completed in multiple phases, with Phase 1 beginning along Burke Street from McDuff Avenue to the dead end. Updates will be provided as the work progresses. Work will primarily occur within City of Jacksonville rights-of-way and utility easements.
Construction Conditions
For the safety of our crews and the public, we will be required to temporarily close one lane of Burke Street while actively working in the area. The lane will reopen at the end of each workday. During this phase, semi-trucks and other large vehicles will need to utilize Strickland Street instead of Burke Street to help maintain safe traffic flow through the area. Please see the work area map below.
BURKE STREET - TEMPORARY LANE CLOSURE:
Anticipated Start Date: July 13, 2026*
Estimated Completion Date: August 2026*
Residents and/or businesses will have access and will be permitted to drive (with caution) within the project area. There may be times when driveway access is limited while crews are working directly in front of homes and/or businesses. Crews will knock on doors to provide time to move vehicles prior to blocking any driveways. Please observe all construction signs, detours, and general directions provided by the crews working on-site.
Some customers may experience minor interruptions to their water service. JEA will notify customers at least 48 hours prior to any planned water outages.
We appreciate your patience and apologize in advance for any inconvenience this work may cause.
Restoration of the Project Area
Restoration of the project area will begin soon after the project has been completed. Any existing grass, sprinklers, pavement, curb, gutter, driveways and/or sidewalks affected during construction will be returned to their pre-construction condition.
