JEA Works to Improve Reclaimed Water Availability in Nocatee

2025-03-19

Jacksonville, FL - As spring approaches and warmer weather leads to increased irrigation use, JEA is taking proactive steps to ensure reliable reclaimed water service for customers in the Nocatee community.

To address customer concerns about last year’s reclaimed water supply and pressure challenges, JEA, with the support of the St. Johns River Water Management District, is launching a new program to improve reclaimed water management. This initiative aims to provide water pressure for lawn and landscape irrigation while also protecting valuable water resources.

“As a community-focused utility, we are committed to delivering reliable reclaimed water service while promoting responsible water use. This program will ensure Nocatee residents have the irrigation water they need, while also supporting the long-term sustainability of our water resources” JEA Chief Water Systems Officer Robert Zammataro said.

New Watering Schedule Begins April 7

To maximize water availability, JEA will implement a modified watering schedule for Nocatee residents in Duval and St. Johns counties. This new schedule is designed to conserve groundwater and reclaimed water and is supported by JEA and the St. Johns River Water Management District.

Key changes include:

New Assigned Watering Days: Nocatee customers still will have two designated watering days per week, but those days will be assigned by zone rather than street address number. Both even- and odd-numbered addresses within each zone will follow the same schedule.

Non-Watering Days: To maintain sufficient reclaimed water pressure for all customers, irrigation with reclaimed water will be unavailable for two days per week on non-watering days. Each zone will observe different non-watering days. This will help balance system demand and ensure a more reliable supply during peak usage times.

This modified schedule will remain in effect through Nov. 2, 2025, after which customers will return to the standard watering restrictions approved by SJRWMD and implemented at a local level.

JEA's Commitment to Customer Support

JEA recognizes that this adjustment represents a significant change for customers. To assist with the transition, JEA will provide direct outreach to affected communities with details on their specific watering schedules. Additionally, JEA will offer free irrigation timer checks, irrigation system assessments, and conservation guidance along with rebates for qualifying purchases to help customers make the most of their water use.
