JACKSONVILLE – JEA teams earned first-place awards at the Florida Section of the American Water Works Association competition in Orlando, Dec. 8-11 in Orlando.
JEA men’s and women’s teams earned first place awards for competing in Hydrant Hysteria, Ductile Iron Tap and Meter Madness events.
The Meter Madness challenge involves assembling a water meter in the fastest time possible. Luke Byous won that competition.

Penalties are assessed for infractions of rules such as leaking connections or safety violations. JEA’s Ductile Iron Tapping champions team included Brandon Barr (coach), Tim Maxwell, Caleb Barker and John Naumann.
The Hydrant Hysteria competition challenges two-member teams to assemble a fire hydrant as quickly as possible. JEA’s women’s team included Sam Howard (coach), Flo Bent, Janelle Hatch and Ashley Tallman (alternate). Competing on JEA’s men’s team were Brandon Barr (coach), Sam Howard II, John Alderman and Mike Owen (alternate).
