JEA Warns Customers of a New Energy Audit Scam

2013-07-26

Jacksonville, FL - JEA is warning customers about a new scam that is making its way around northeast Florida. Someone is calling residents claiming to be JEA, offering energy audits that will result in a 25 percent savings.

While JEA does offer energy audits to our customers, JEA does not charge for the energy audit or make promises up front about the level of savings, since each situation is unique. Appointments for a free JEA energy audit or to verify if we called you for any type of service can be made by calling JEA at (904) 665-6000.

During an audit, a JEA representative will inspect your home and then offer cost-effective ideas designed to help lower energy costs. First, they’ll break down your energy consumption into components so they know where to look for improvements prior to arriving at your home. Once they arrive, they’ll conduct a physical walkthrough inspection (no diagnostic equipment is used) of your home and appliances to determine where improvements can be made both in behavior and in new equipment.

Commercial customers can call (904) 665-6250 to schedule a free JEA business energy audit.

JEA is the seventh-largest community-owned electric utility in the United States and one of the largest water and sewer utilities in the nation providing electric, water and sewer service to residents and businesses in northeast Florida.
