Southside Boulevard to be Temporarily Closed This Weekend for JEA Water Project

Jacksonville, FL - JEA is required to completely close Southside Boulevard at Bradley Road from Friday, April 20, at 7:30 p.m. to Monday, April 23, at 5 a.m. while a pipe is installed across the road. Vehicular traffic will be detoured to the Southside Service Roads. Please expect traffic delays as Southside Boulevard will be funneled down to one traffic lane. Signs have been posted for the past week about the road closure.

JEA is beginning a project to construct a water transmission pipeline between its two major water grids in Duval County. This project, known as the Total Water Management Plan (TWMP) Project, will transport excess water supply from the north side of the St. Johns River to the south side of the river to better meet increased potable water demand in the southerly portion of the JEA service area. This project will also promote conservation of the Floridan aquifer by lessening JEA’s water resource withdrawal demand from its southern raw water well fields.

One phase of this project (Segment 6) extends down Southside Boulevard to Bradley Road where the pipe will connect with JEA’s existing water infrastructure. JEA is accelerating some of this work to coordinate with the Florida Department of Transportation’s current resurfacing project.

The construction will involve the installation of a 30” water line across Southside Boulevard and along the west Southside Service Road.

More than 240,000 customers rely on JEA for clean, safe, and reliable drinking water supplies.
