5th Street - Imeson to Melson Sewer Improvement Project

Project Objective
A contractor working for JEA (Petticoat-Schmitt Civil Contractors, Inc.) installed a new sanitary sewer force main and replaced the existing gravity sewer main along 5th Street from Imeson Street to Melson Avenue.
JEA replaced the gravity sewer main and installed the additional force main to ensure the reliability of the JEA sewer system and to provide for future growth in the area. Sanitary sewer force mains are pressurized sewer pipes used to transport sewage to JEA wastewater treatment plants. Failures to sewer mains can potentially cause major sewer back-ups, environmental harm and roadway issues.
Construction Conditions
Construction primarily occurred in City of Jacksonville rights-of-way, roads, and easements.
Restoration of the Project Area
Restoration of the project area typically begins 2-3 weeks after the new sewer line has been installed, tested and cleared for use. Any existing pavement, grass, curb, gutter, driveways or sidewalks affected during construction will be returned pre-construction condition.
