Did you know that using reclaimed water for irrigation helps protect the St. Johns River and sustain the Floridan aquifer? By using reclaimed water, you reduce the amount of treated wastewater discharged to the river, and you reduce withdrawals from the aquifer by using highly treated wastewater for irrigation.

Helping Preserve Water Resources
More than 50 percent of Florida’s public water supply is used outdoors – primarily for irrigation. Using reclaimed water instead of drinking water conserves aquifer supplies.
In Northeast Florida, drinking water is provided by JEA from the Floridan aquifer. The aquifer is an underground natural reservoir of water. We currently have plenty of clean water to supply our customers, and implementing specific strategies now to reduce water consumption will help us avoid shortfalls in the future.
When you use reclaimed water, you are playing a crucial role in reducing aquifer withdrawals.
