JEA knows that needing and wanting to make home energy upgrades is one thing. Paying for those home investments is another. In an effort to help homeowners improve energy efficiency, JEA, through a federal energy efficiency grant*, has partnered with local lending institutions to offer low interest financing on these ShopSmart with JEA home energy upgrades.
How does it work?
First, select a JEA approved energy efficiency (EE) evaluator to receive an investment-grade energy audit. For information on discounted audits and approved EE evaluators, click here.
Next, choose an improvement package that increases your home's efficiency by 15 percent or more based upon your needs and budget. Then, you must take two steps before contacting the lender:
- Have the auditor fill out an upgrade certification form (ShopSmart with JEA EE evaluators have this form. Download the form for your convenience)
- Get quotes for the work to be performed (the EE evaluator may be able to help with this)
Finally, contact a participating lender who will qualify residential borrowers for low interest financing on recommended approved energy efficiency measures.
- Residential loans typically range from $2,000 to $20,000.
- The program will reduce the interest rate to 0% for the loan you receive up to $5,000 in interest reduction.
- Term of loans shall be less than the life of the measure and not to exceed 10 years.
Participating Lenders
The following lenders are working in partnership with JEA together to make Jacksonville more energy efficient. Contact them when you have your quotes and are ready to begin your improvements. They will be providing low interest EE loans for qualified EE measures for JEA customers. For a full list of eligible measures, click here.
Customers must qualify for the loan per the lending institution’s standard business practices and policies. Customers are not guaranteed loan approval by JEA. Lenders are locally based. Loans will be initiated at the subsidized rate by the participating borrower. As this financial assistance program is grant-based, the program will continue while funds are available.
* The funds for this program are made possible through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and the Energy Efficiency
and Conservation Block Grant program administered by the City of Jacksonville and JEA.
