JEA's Communi-Tree Program is granting 300, 30-gallon trees each year for the next three years to JEA's service area. If you are aware of public or private property that needs trees, complete an application . There is a limit of 25 trees to any single project per grant period.
Applications for the first grant period will be accepted through September 30. Trees awarded from the first grant period must be planted between October and December. Applications for the second grant period will be accepted through December 31. Trees awarded from the second grant period must be planted between January and March.
There are many species of trees available that are grown at the JEA cooperative tree farm at the Montgomery Correctional Center through an agreement with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
The trees are granted to those projects that meet certain criteria:
- Degree of impact to the community
- Need for trees at the specific site
- Need for trees in the general area
- Volunteer commitment to the project
Photographs of the planting site must be submitted with your application. Necessary permits must be secured, and you must agree to maintain the trees for two years.
Extra points are given to each project that includes:
- A landscape plan
- An irrigation system in place
- Prior signed approval by an International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) certified arborist
JEA's Communi-Tree Program works in conjunction with the City's Clean It Up, Green It Up Program. First, your project is reviewed by the Citizen Planning and Advisory Committee (CPAC) representing your geographic area. Then, the top 10 projects, or 75 tree requests, from each CPAC are reviewed by JEA. Each grant period has 150 trees available for a total of 300 trees per year.
Apply today to help JEA improve the quality of life in the communities we serve.
