Line Maintainer Apprenticeship
SHARP for Line Maintainers Steps in the Hiring Process:
- Attend SHARP orientation,
- Pass TABE & Bennett assessments:
- TABE passing grade = 10.0
- Bennett passing grade = 47
- FCCJ gives both tests regularly.
- JEA accepts scores from tests taken within the past two years.
- Call FCCJ at (904) 632-5020 to schedule appointment.
- Apply on-line at www.jea.com prior to the close date,
- Pass Physical Agilities tests,
- Attend and complete Line Maintainer climbing school,
- Background Screening completed,
(criminal, employment, driver’s license)
- Candidate goes on Eligibility List. Veteran’s preference applies,
- Selection According to Civil Service Rules & Regulations.
- Conditional offer pending screening results,
- Physical / Substance abuse screening,
- Apprentice hired.

- Handling, setting and framing for installation of poles
- Climbing poles
- Conduit and cable Installation overhead and underground
- Underground manholes, duct banks, street lighting overhead and underground
- Overhead and underground equipment troubleshooting
- Customer property restoration
What abilities must a JEA Line Maintainer apprentice/Line Maintainer have?
- Physical ability
- Must be able to work in the heat and cold
- Must be able to work day or night
- Mental ability
- Dependability
- Must be available to be on call
- Avoid un-scheduled leave
