JEA redesigned our Co-op Program last year to align with our workforce readiness strategy: Right talent, right time, right place.
Robert Roark began working for JEA during the summer of 2007, while taking courses at University of North Florida. He was placed in the Fuels Management Services group based on his knowledge and skills acquired in industrial engineering from University of Florida. His tenure as a co-op, working on the monthly projection of fuel and purchased power expense, prepared him well for a full time civil service Engineer I position that became available in the fall of 2007.
“Robert has made an immediate positive impact at JEA as part of the Fuels team. I’m impressed by how quickly he’s learning and making significant contributions.”
- Jim Myers, Director, Fuels Management Services
“The curriculum of my Co-op assignment was structured to enable me to work on creative and highly educational projects. Never before have I enjoyed learning so much. I could not have been placed in a job more suited to my major and my expectations for a future career.”
- Robert Roark, Engineer I (Former JEA Co-op)
Robert has now transitioned from Co-op to Engineer. This is one example of the successful move from co-op to JEA employee- the goal of our workforce readiness strategy as we work to serve our community by being the best electric, water and sewer utility in the nation.
