JEA Sees Highest Summer Electric Usage to Date on July 22

Jacksonville, FL (July 27, 2005) - JEA set another new record for summer electricity use at about 3:30 p.m. on Friday, July 22 - generating 2,747 megawatts (million watts) for nearly 400,000 customers in Duval, St. Johns and Clay counties.

This is the third summer electricity record set by JEA so far this summer - having reached summer peak use on June 16 and then again on July 6.

The number is well below the all-time current record (winter) peak of 3,166 megawatts set on January 24, 2003.

JEA has the capacity to generate about 3,200 megawatts through its power plants and through power purchase agreements with other utilities.

JEA is the eighth largest community-owned electric utility in America, providing electric, water and sewer services to more than 750,000 accounts in Northeast Florida.
