SPRING TRAINING...FOR YOUR LAWN?
Spring has arrived and now is the time to begin training your lawn to use less water. As your lawn wakes from its winter dormancy, resist the temptation to flood it with water. Too much water causes weed growth and can contribute to fungus growth on your grass. Plus your water bill goes up!
If you begin now watering your lawn wisely, it will send roots deeper, making the grass more drought-tolerant and much healthier.
What else should you put in the training regimen for your lawn?
- If it doesn't rain, water your lawn only once every 3 to 5 days in Spring
- Each time you water, put only about ½ to ¾ of an inch of water on the grass.
- Do not over-fertilize. Your lawn will need more water if you do.
- Sharpen your lawn mower blade. A dull blade tears the grass instead of cutting it. The grass uses more water in the healing process.
- Cut the grass no lower than three inches. If you do, you'll stress the grass and it will use more water.
