JEA Begins Work on New Phase of St. Johns River Water Line
Jacksonville, FL (January 26, 2004) - To improve water flow, pressure and system reliability for customers, JEA will begin work this week on a new water line between Utah Road and Cedar Street.
The $1.3 million project, which involves the installation of 3,700 feet of 30-inch pipe in Jacksonville's Southside area, represents an important component in JEA's overall plan to create an integrated water transmission system between the utility's north and south water grids.
Streets in the area that will be affected during construction include Utah Road, Alamo Street, and sections of Southampton Road, Manning Street and Montana Avenue. While most of the construction will take place within city rights of way, temporary road closures will be required from time to time.
Petticoat Contracting, Inc. will perform the construction and installation work, which is projected to be completed by August of this year. The company plans to conduct most of its work during weekday hours.
Once in operation, the pipe will be used to transport water to the Hendricks Avenue Water Treatment Plant from the water line that runs beneath the St. John's River in the downtown Jacksonville area.
