JEA Announces Pump-Out Guidelines for Private Boats Beginning Jan 31

Jacksonville, FL (January 20, 2005) - JEA, in cooperation with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and the City of Jacksonville, will provide holding tank wastewater disposal - free of charge - for private boats docked or anchored near the downtown area during Super Bowl XXXIX.

As part of an agreement with the DEP, JEA is providing the service to ensure waste generated by boats ends up at a JEA sewer treatment facility and not in the St. Johns River.

From 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 31 through Monday, Feb. 7, JEA will provide pump-out service, free of charge, upon request. This service is being provided to all boats and yachts docked and anchored between the Matthews and Fuller Warren bridges during Super Bowl XXXIX.

When they are ready for service, boat owners simply get on their radios and hail the "JEA Pump Out Service" on Marine Channel 16 and then be prepared to shift to Marine Channel 72 to arrange for the pump-out vessel to come along side and transfer off the wastewater.

Flyers about the service are being distributed at the Jacksonville Boat-A-Rama Show this week at the Prime Osborn Convention Center, and through the City of Jacksonville Dock Master to all area marinas over the next two weeks.

For more information about this special service, please contact JEA Environmental Services at (904) 665-7605, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

On behalf of the Coast Guard Marine Safety Office (MSO), JEA reminds boat owners of the temporary regulated navigation areas, security zones and temporary anchorage areas on the St. Johns River from Winter Point to St. Johns Bluff Reach that will be in effect for Super Bowl XXXIX activities and events from Wednesday, Feb. 2 through Monday, Feb. 7.

For more information on the temporary navigation areas, people should visit the US Coast Guard's website at www.d7publicaffairs.com.

JEA is the eighth largest community-owned electric utility in America, providing electric, water and sewer services to more than 750,000 accounts in Northeast Florida.
