JEA to Close Downtown Center on Saturdays
Jacksonville, FL (January 27, 2005) - JEA's Customer Care Center in downtown Jacksonville, located next to the JEA Tower at 21 W. Church St., will no longer be open on Saturdays starting next week.
Saturday, January 29th will be the last Saturday JEA customers can use the downtown location to pay bills and talk to JEA representatives. The downtown location will still offer an after-hours drop box option and will continue to be open from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday.
According to Customer Contact Management Director Tim Pugh, the operation of five other neighborhood Customer Care Centers on Saturday, along with the declining number of customers using the downtown center on Saturdays over the last two years, prompted the decision.
"Fewer customers use the downtown center on Saturdays now, so it is really not cost effective to continue operations at this location on the weekend," Pugh said. "We will continue to offer Saturday service at our five other neighborhood JEA Customer Care Centers and will reassign some staff to those locations on Saturdays to improve services there."
JEA suggests that customers who were using the downtown location instead use the next closest JEA Center - the Gateway Branch, located at 5258 Norwood Avenue, Suite 15. The Gateway Branch also has two drive-through lanes that provide faster, more convenient service for customers.
JEA's other customer care centers are located at Highlands Square (Dunn Avenue), Oak Hill Village (103 St.), St. Johns Square (Beach Boulevard), Gateway Mall (Norwood Avenue), and Mandarin Landing (San Jose Boulevard).
For more information, customers can contact JEA at 665-6000.
JEA is the eighth largest community-owned electric utility in America, providing electric, water and sewer services to more than 750,000 accounts in Northeast Florida.
