Crews Head Home from Lafayette
On Oct. 4, JEA responded to a request for assistance from the Lafayette Utility System, which was working to restore power to 60,000 customers in Lafayette, Louisiana in the aftermath of Hurricane Lili. Early that afternoon, six JEA crews and two coordinators rolled out of Jacksonville and headed their way. The work is now complete, and our employees left Lafayette to return home early Friday, Oct. 11. E-mail letters of praise for the outstanding performance of our crews continue to come in from Lafayette residents. Thank you to our linemen, apprentices and foremen for their exemplary performance, and for building community beyond our local community.

Words can't express our appreciation for all the crews you sent to our area. Every one of the guys that we met were perfect gentlemen and willing to work whatever hours it took to get the horrific job done as expeditiously as possible. I know that if the circumstances were ever reversed, Lafayette Utility System would be "on your doorstep" to assist in any way necessary. Thank you so very much, and please extend our gratitude to all.

After four days without electricity, a number of crews from your company arrived in the neighborhood to bring the power on. Thank you so much for sending them here to help.

I was given this e-mail address by two God-sent men who helped me. "Thank you" just doesn't seem to be enough. After dark, you could see the utility trucks on Interstate 10 coming back into town, and still they were everywhere to be seen. We felt like just standing and clapping for them. It did bring tears to my eyes and my heart was heavy and proud to be living in America.
I have an 80-year-old mother who couldn't breathe anymore from the heat and was wearing out. I stopped a utility truck from Jacksonville and the driver got permission to come back with another man and help me. In 10 minutes, they put me back on line when I had been out of electricity for five days.
Thank you to all of you. We appreciate all you did and sacrificed for us. We love you ALL. God Bless JEA and Unit 30.
